Do This In Remembrance of Me
This year the Biblical Feasts of Passover, Unleaven Bread and First Fruits coincides with Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday with many significance to observe between these feast.
And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you. Luke 22:19-20 NKJV
This passage refers to the Passover meal Jesus Christ celebrated with His disciples before His crucifixion. The Passover table is prepared with a special meal including unleaven bread and the four cups of sweet wine (Cup of Sanctification, Cup of Suffering, Cup of Redemption and the Cup of Praise) representing the covenant Abba Father made with the children of Israel as we read in Exodus 6:6-8. This feast is a reminder of their salvation from Egypt and the re-telling of this story every year at the table.
The cup Jesus took after supper, was the Cup of Redemption, which represents the spotless lamb slaughtered for the blood to be applied on the door posts of the Israelites houses. Here Jesus Christ (Yeshua) The Messiah is holding the cup representing His Blood that was shed for our redemption. He is both the High Priest and the spotless Lamb who took on man’s sins from past, present and future and sacrificed Himself for the atonement of our sins. This is the New Covenant He was referring to. We have been redeemed with His Blood sprinkled on the Mercy Seat in the Throne Room of Heaven. His Blood speaks for us today. We have the choice to believe and receive this free gift of eternal life.
The Feast of First Fruits falls on the day after Sabbath and this year coincides with the Resurrection of Jesus Christ who is our First Fruit. Abba Father instructed the Israelites to observe the yearly cycle of feasts as appointed by Him. The Feast of First Fruits was the offering of the first grain harvest. Jesus said that He is The Bread of Life, the Manna from Heaven. Bread is made from grain and has to go through a process of crushing, threshing, milling into flour to use for the dough. Yet even then another process of heat is required to bake the bread for the final product. The matzoh is an unleaven bread used during these feasts. The holes and burned marks is a reminder of the affliction Yeshua The Messiah suffered on His way to The Cross. He is our First Fruit of the incorruptible seed. We feast on His words of life for “man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of The mouth of God. Luke 4:4 KJV.
The Feast of Unleaven Bread is observed for seven days starting from Passover (Friday sunset) and all leaven is removed from their homes on the first day of this feast. The Israelites left Egypt in a haste and therefore had no time for the dough to activate with the leaven from the environment, resulting in unleaven bread. Jesus compares leaven in 1 Corinthians 5:6-8 to sin. Just like sowing a seed, sin (the corruptible seed) not dealt with will grow into a tree and produce rotten fruit. You only need to take a small piece of leaven to add to your bread dough to activate and grow, duplicating the dough. Jesus The Messiah is The Unleaven Bread of Life sent from Heaven. Abba Father provided manna to the Israelites in the wilderness, today we have Jesus Christ as our Bread of Life.
As we partake in communion, we remember Jesus Christ our Messiah for His Blood shed on the Cross and His body afflicted for our sins. He redeemed us from death and gave us an eternal life of freedom in Him, having direct access to Abba Father and sealed us with the Holy Spirit claiming us as God's very own. Ephesians 1:13
Beloved, as we enter the weekend of Christ death on the Cross of Calvary and His resurrection, reflect on where you are on your journey with Him. Is He your First Fruit? Have you accepted His gift of salvation by believing that He died on the Cross for your sins? Have you applied the Blood of Jesus on the door post of your heart? Are you taking your relationship with Him seriously? Beloved, daily we need to lay down our lives for Yeshua. Daily we surrender our hearts to Him. Daily we take up our cross and follow Him. The journey is not meant to be easy as followers of Christ. For we will suffer and endure many trials in His name. But we do this knowing that we have our salvation in Him. He redeemed us, rescued us from Egypt (the world) and set us apart to be holy and blameless. We can indeed learn from the Israelites, as their journey is not as far fetched as we can imagine.
This journey is about cleansing, getting rid of all the leaven and preparing our hearts and souls for His Return; a day that is near without a doubt.
For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’
Leviticus 17:11 NKJV
Therefore say to the children of Israel: ‘I am the Lord ; I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments. I will take you as My people, and I will be your God. Then you shall know that I am the Lord your God who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. And I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and I will give it to you as a heritage: I am the Lord .’ ”
Exodus 6:6-8 NKJV
Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me. This is the bread which came down from heaven—not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.”
John 6:53-58 NKJV
