Passover 6: The Cup of Redemption
Psalms 23:5 NLT
[5] You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies.
You honor me by anointing my head with oil.
My cup overflows with blessings.
Kosi R'vayah is the hebrew translation and meaning for "my cup is saturated" in Psalm 23:5 for "my cup overflows with blessing". "In Hebrew, the text is, “כּוֹסִי רְוָיָֽה” (kosi revaya); “Kosi” means ‘my cup’; however, I believe that translating the word “revaya” to “overflowing” doesn’t do the word justice. This word has a greater depth to it, and therefore, in my opinion, the word “saturated” is a better choice" (hope4israel.org).
Luke 22:14-20 NLT
[14] When the time came, Jesus and the apostles sat down together at the table. [15] Jesus said, “I have been very eager to eat this Passover meal with you before my suffering begins. [16] For I tell you now that I won’t eat this meal again until its meaning is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God.” [17] Then he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. Then he said, “Take this and share it among yourselves. [18] For I will not drink wine again until the Kingdom of God has come.” [19] He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” [20] After supper he took another cup of wine and said, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you.
as the Passover Lamb whose Blood was poured for the redemption of eternal death and slavery to this world. This is the meal that reveals who Jesus is as the Passover Lamb and Him fulfilling the foreshadowing of their exodus from Egypt.
"Do this in remembrance of Me". This was His commandment as they partook in the first communion together by sharing one loaf of bread, representing His Body and drinking from the same cup, representing His Blood poured out for us as a sacrifice. For His disciples and us, the cup of redemption is for the deliverance and salvation through His blood, which paid the penalty for our sin and resulted in the forgiveness and complete pardon of our sin. This was done in accordance with the riches of His grace (Ephesians 1:7) as the new covenant that by His Blood we have redemption and eternal death pass over us. However, for Jesus, this cup was for His suffering and death on a cross.
Jesus chose to drink this cup of suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane and He chose to be the sacrificed Lamb. He chose to be poured out for us on the cross of Calvary, so that we could be filled up in accordance with the riches of His grace.
We therefore, can celebrate communion with Him in "kosi revaya" because He became a sacrifice poured out for us, so that our cup can be saturated with the riches of His blessings of living life in abundance as co-heirs with Christ Jesus to the heavenly blessings that are available to us today.
Beloved, whenever (available any time as needed) you celebrate the communion meal, may your cup be saturated with His blessings and as you feast on His meal, do this in remembrance of Him.
Ephesians 1:7-10 Amplified Bible
7 In Him we have redemption [that is, our deliverance and salvation] through His blood, [which paid the penalty for our sin and resulted in] the forgiveness and complete pardon of our sin, in accordance with the riches of His grace 8 which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and understanding [with practical insight] 9 He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ, 10 with regard to the fulfillment of the times [that is, the end of history, the climax of the ages]—to bring all things together in Christ, [both] things in the heavens and things on the earth.
